Statens institutionsstyrelse (SiS) genomför nu åtgärder för att elektroniskt kunna övervaka vissa barn och unga som är placerade på de särskilda ungdomshemmen, dels vid vistelser utanför det särskilda ungdomshemmet, dels inom hemmets eget område. Utöver det har SiS fått uppdraget att möjliggöra för elektronisk övervakning av barn och unga som inte är placerade på ett särskilt ungdomshem, men som efter ett beslut av socialnämnden ska följa särskilda föreskrifter om att bl.a. under vissa tider uppehålla sig i bostaden eller annan anvisad plats. SiS upphandlar en helhetslösning för att kunna elektroniskt övervaka vissa barn och unga, vilket innefattar utrustning och en systemlösning som kan driftas i egen IT- miljö med support från leverantören.
