Le projet de la Ligne Nouvelle entre Montpellier et Perpignan (LNMP) consiste à créer une liaison ferroviaire moderne (haute capacité, haute qualité, haute vitesse) pour répondre durablement à la demande croissante de mobilité et aux problèmes de congestion à moyen et long termes de l’unique axe ferroviaire de la façade méditerranéenne de la région Occitanie. Il s'agit d'une ligne mixte LGV et Fret. Elle comprend 52,3 km de section courante, auxquels s’ajoutent 7 km de raccordements à la ligne classique à Villeneuve-lès-Béziers et Lattes, ainsi que le raccordement au Contournement ferroviaire de Nîmes et de Montpellier (CNM).
